Gratitude: Biking to Jazzercise

Amalita - the little Amy bike
During the pandemic I discovered a Jazzercise near my home. I never imagined I would take the classes but these have turned out to be a lifeline to meet new people and be safely socially distanced during a time of isolation. For this I am grateful.

Here's my bike that I've kitted-out for Sunday Jazzercise class travel. Amalita (the little Amy) is folding, has panniers, is adorned here with my Golden Gate University sweatshirt on the seat and my Camelbak water backpack hanging from the handlebars. She sums-up my self-contained and self-reliant life.

Ike's Leash

To ensure that no one snags Ike's seat I've attached this highly unattractive but hugely practical seat leash. Now he can was his tail.

Commuting Buddy

On my Bike-BART-Bike commute today I had a wonderful surprise - my co-worker Theron and I were in commuting-sync. It is funny enough that Theron lives just 10 houses away from me here in Alameda. Even stranger that he has the same folding bike - the US version (hum, does it have a cool name like Ike? I'll need to find out.)

Riding back home in the dark with our flashing safety lights we took an adventurous route along quiet back streets in Alameda. It was like being a twelve-year-old again. We did all kinds of silly riding, speeding up, slowing down and making crazy eights. Really a fantastic way to cap a commute.

Building a Better Box

I have consolidated most of my "stuff" into two boxes to ship to Washington next week.

Poor Ike the Bike, even though he folds he doesn't fit into the box they moving company provided. Solution? They told me to build a box that fits. Ah yes, they've asked me to get creative. I've built quite a box. Ike is quite buffered with clothes. I have a feeling it will be like a tossed salad when it arrives in DC.

It may be difficult to tell but I built the box on the left. The one on the right is factory produced.
