This week I developed laryngitis, which has forced me to whisper. Who knew that whispering could be an enticing way to communicate? As I have been going about my days, people have had to lean in close to hear what I have to say - and really listen. I see that they are more focused on my face and my words.
In the retail environment the cashiers have given me extra attention, lots of smiles and even shared stories with me. One woman told me that when she gets laryngitis she tells her friends that it was caused by a late night Ninja attack.
Unfortunately, the whispering is not by choice and I hope that my voice returns in time for class tomorrow. Then again, maybe this will be an opportunity for my students to listen closely.

Multi-Purpose Litter Box
I made this litter box from a whicker trunk I found on clearance at Cost Plus World Market. Dhalia loves it for its primary use as well as a scratching post and a generally cool place to hang out and relax.

Thing I Love About Oakland
Starting a list and topping it off with the quality of Gueat Services at the coliseum complex. Lost my A's ticket and they replaced it in 2 minutes with no fuss. Left my glasses at the Guest Services counter getting the new ticket. Easily got back to the stadium the day after he game and AEG services had my glasses at the reception desk.
Small town community feel in a big city.

Welcome Home Dhalia
Adopted a cat today at the Oakland SPCA. We clicked instantly because she's a lot like me - curious, smart, mellow, and loving but independent.
When I met her I started to cry, unexpectedly. I think there has been a hole in my heart since my Grammie died one year ago this week. Grammie loved and cared for my cat Tika and I miss them both. Now I have a new compaion. I named her Dhalia because that is my favorite name and Grammie loved flowers and cats. Maybe this was the cat's name in a previous life because she already responds.
The start of a new chapter of companionship and love.

FCBD Anathema Rider
I love me some FatChanceBellyDance in this low-rider meets hip-rider video called Anathema Rider! Carolena Nerricio once again pushes the creative envelope. Plus, a sly reference to our favorite SAMCRO.
Reminded, yet again, how lucky I have been to work with Carolena. Now if I can just get a cherry red low-rider like this one, life would be even sweeter.
